Faire At 190 is a welcoming café and casual restaurant tucked into Berkhamsted’s High Street, carving out a spot that blends fresh, thoughtful brunches with a laid-back coffee culture. Locals and visitors alike find themselves drawn here for daytime catch-ups, weekend breakfasts, or a pause during a leisurely stroll through town. The vibe is warm and unpretentious, with a team that is notably attentive and efficient, creating a space where you feel looked after without fuss.

Coffee takes centre stage here, particularly for those who appreciate a strong but creamy cup — the kind that earns nods from regulars. There’s something consistent about the way drinks are prepared, which makes it a reliable stop for a morning hit of caffeine before work or weekend errands. While their coffee might be the initial reason to drop by, the evolving breakfast and brunch menu has become an attraction in its own right.

The food leans fresh and inventive, with standout dishes like chia seed pancakes paired with bacon and banana gaining local fans. These pancakes seem to strike a balance between sweet and savory that surprises and delights, offering enough heft without feeling overly indulgent. Other popular plates include a skilfully roasted chestnut mushroom dish served on toasted sourdough, which has turned even meat-eaters’ heads, and a full English breakfast that brings a twist to traditional elements — most notably their unique take on baked beans. The toasted banana bread, moist yet crisp, with fresh blueberries and a hint of mint, also gets a thumbs-up for combining comfort with a little extra lift.

The atmosphere feels friendly without being cliquey, suited for solo visits, casual meet-ups, or bringing along family — even the dog is welcomed, reflecting a community-minded spirit. Managers and staff are perceptibly tuned into the flow of the café, attentive to both guests and each other, which makes busy mornings and brunch hours run smoothly. It’s the kind of place that benefits from arriving mid-morning or early afternoon, when the buzz is just right and there’s room to settle in.

Faire At 190 fits naturally into Berkhamsted’s High Street as a spot that locals use for approachable yet thoughtful dining and drinks. Whether you’re after a serious coffee, a brunch that pleasantly stretches the typical confines of the category, or a friendly place to linger while watching the High Street go by, it’s a dependable choice that leaves enough room for personal favourites to emerge over repeat visits.

Lovely new cafe to Berkhamsted. Food is delicious, fresh and offers a great selection of sweet treats. I had the chai pancakes with bacon & banana. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

This is my favourite place for coffee. Today we tried their new breakfast menu. The full English was incredible and the way they do beans… ingenious. But! The chia seed pancakes were the best and my daughter struggled to give me a bite as they were so good.

Coffee is nice and strong, and very creamy, suspect that blue lid is the standard which I applaud. We tried the toasted banana bread, salmon and scrambled egg and the bacon banana and maple syrup chia seed pancakes.. reviews below: Toasted banana bread: Rich, toasted yet centre moist accompanied with Greek yogurt and blueberries. The mint on top really added something and so my critique is that there weren’t more sprigs.. add some additional sprigs to the empty part of the plate please as it really elevated it. Scrambled egg with smoked salmon: Was very nice. Salmon was generous but could have done with a little more egg. Chia seed pancakes with banana and maple, paired with the green juice: my wife described this as “absolute delicious perfection”! The chia seeds added more depth to the classic American pancake and the bacon, fatty and slightly crisp. Lots of banana and maple to compliment. Because we can’t put 4.5, we will give a 5.

As a complete carnivore and meat lover, When a friend raved about the roasted chestnut mushroom dish, I thought hell no, but I ended up ordering it to try it. OMG, now I understand why she was making such a fuss! I’ve never tasted anything as good and as tasty before! Beautifully served on toasted sourdough the mushrooms were divine. It’s made me rethink my carnivorous ways! The coffee is always lovely at Faire and all the food is lovely and freshly made. Lovey buzzy atmosphere too.

I stopped at Faire for brunch during my day of enjoying Berkhamsted's high street and shops. The service at Faire was excellent, starting with Sarah, the manager, who made me feel really welcome when I walked in with my dog. I couldn't help noticing how efficiently she went about her job during my visit, keeping everything moving and making sure the staff were OK. The staff all served with a smile at the tables and the counter. This is a really well-run café and restaurant. My visit yesterday will not have been my last!

I had the jerk chicken open faced sandwich, carrot cake and a coffee. Everything was better than I expected. I thought it was fabulous and the food really well balanced and thoughtful. We will come back. Photo of an empty plate because we ate it all!

First time at Faire At 190, looking for somewhere to sit with a coffee and socialise our new 12 week old puppy Jasper to high street sounds and people. What a pleasure this turned out to be. Lovely coffee for us and ice cubes for Jasper and Rose my Hearing Dog. I made the staff aware I was deaf and so needed to lip read - which they took on board with respect ( unlike some places who think shouting or talking really slowly with magically mean I can hear them! So thank you for that. It was a lovely coffee too, not bitter like some. Although we didn’t eat anything this time the food that others were ordering looked lovely. T Thank you again
